Our own Smriti Keshari going for a surf, NYC style. March 1st. “My first day back in the winter hemisphere after a month in sunny South Africa. Early AM and we’re pushing against the rising tide of commuters, boards slicing through them, weaving like dolphins in some strange sea of musty desperation and soggy faces. I’m not a New Yorker. I know enough to know that this is funny. How hard we have to swim for open water, to taste the tangy salt of an ocean sunrise. And yet, it’s worth it, and in some moments, like this one, right now, it’s all the sweeter for the reminder that while we’re all just fishies in the same big sea, every day we get to wake up and decide which direction to swim.” – Forest Woodward
