From photographer Nick Cook:“Every year, since taking up the planer, shaper Ryan Lovelace has made himself a ‘birthday board’ to enjoy for the rest of the year. But in all his years of shaping, the surf conditions had never come together for a birthday slide. This year, with swell in the water, one thing remained perfectly clear, he had to find waves. After our surf session I asked him how he liked his new birthday board. He smiled and said “I love it, I can’t wait to make more of these for friends, the board felt like it disappeared under my feet…”
