A natural-born competitor, Troy Mothershead sought to be the quarterback of his high school football team. Balancing the laid-back vibes of surfing and the drive to compete on the field led to one of those small-but-significant moments that came to define his career. 

Innermost Limits of Pure Edge

The edge kneeboard was designed by George Greenough in the early 1970's and in the past few years, George is back at it. He has been shaping stand-up edge boards for the likes of Rasta and Ellis Ericson. Bay area shaper Marc Andreini has been collaborating with Greenough over the past few months and tweaking the design. Matt Grote and Kyle Kennelly surf the edge board in a variety of conditions with varying results. 

All for a few good waves

Remember Beach Culture, Ray Gun Magazine, and that period of time Surfer Magazine's art direction went off the rails? These were the creations of graphic designer David Carson. Carson's still producing edgy work, but now he does it from his house that overlooks a classic Caribbean point.

Torren Martyn is one guy who lives to search for great waves. Growing up in the popular Northern NSW town of Byron Bay, he’s no stranger to a crowded lineup and, whilst becoming accustomed to these local points, he’s also been traveling, searching and scoring uncrowded waves in desolate locations since he was a kid.
